Václav Horák

(1800–1871)

Václav Horák was a Czech conductor, composer, teacher and writer about music. He composed primarily liturgical music, including 11 masses (the most significant of which is the “Missa Pastoralis” (approx. 1858), three Requiem masses, two “Te Deum” masses, as well as separate choral pieces on Latin texts. His String Quartet is also known, being Horak’s only instrumental work. He taught singing and music theory at the Prague Organ School.
