The Conditions
The Sixth Taneyev International Competition of Chamber Ensembles (hereinafter “the Competition”) will be held during 21–26 November 2017 in Kaluga.
The procedure of the auditions is as follows: the First (Preliminary) round will be held in absentia via recordings.
The Semifinal and Final rounds, as well as the Special Audition for the Gaydamovich Award, will take place in Kaluga at the Taneyev Concert Hall.
The gala concerts of the Competition will be held:
- on 25 November 2017 in Kaluga at the Taneyev Concert Hall;
- on 26 November 2017 at the Rachmaninoff Hall of Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory.
The Nominations:
1) Two Pianos;
2) Piano four-hands;
3) Piano and Violin;
4) Piano Trio;
5) Piano Quartet;
6) Piano Quintet.
The deadline for submitting the applications is 21 September 2017.
The Procedure of Applying
The Competition is open for participants born before 1 November 2001.
The information required for the participation:
1) the filled-out application form;
2) a scanned copy of the passport front page (for Russian citizens, in addition: scanned copies of the passport stamp confirming the permanent residence registration, of the Taxpayer’s Personal Number, and of the Personal Insurance Account Number of Russia’s Pension Fund) or of any other document certifying the participant’s identity and age;
3) the artistic biography of the ensemble;
4) the detailed program of each round, specifying the composer, the title of a piece, the key, the opus number, the titles of the movements, the list of the movements to be performed (in case a piece is not performed in full), and the duration of the performance;
6) one digital photo of the ensemble (*.jpg, 10 × 15 cm, a minimal resolution of 1200 dpi).
The application must be filled out either electronically or in block letters (hand-printed), either in Russian or in English.

The registration fee must be paid upon arrival to the Competition prior to the drawing of lots.
The registration fees are:
- for the ensembles from Russia and the CIS countries — 4200 rubles;
- for the ensembles from any other countries — 100 euros.
The Procedure of the Competition
The Competition consists of three rounds.
The First (Preliminary) Round will be judged by the Russian jurors.
The participants admitted to the Semifinal Round will receive an invitation not later than 26 September 2017. In case of necessity, the participants will be supplied with the scores of Taneyev’s pieces included into the Competition Program.
Both Semifinal and Final Rounds will be open for public.
The order of performances is to be established by the drawing of lots and must remain unaltered until the end of the Competition.
The final distribution of the prizes will follow the jurors’ discussion and open vote with regard to every ensemble admitted to participate in the Final Round.
A Special Audition for the Gaydamovich Award will take place between the Semifinal and Final Rounds. All contestants may take part in it, whether or not they will have been admitted to participate in the Final Round.
The Prizes
The Sixth Taneyev International Competition of Chamber Ensembles announces the following prizes and diplomas:
1) the First Prize: 160,000 rubles and the title of a laureate;
2) the Second Prize: 120,000 rubles and the title of a laureate;
3) the Third Prize: 80,000 rubles and the title of a laureate;
4) the Fourth Prize: 40,000 rubles and the title of a laureate;
5) two Diplomas, 10,000 rubles each, and the title of a diploma winner;
6) the Special Gaydamovich Award: 30,000 rubles.
All the monetary prizes and diplomas will be paid in rubles and are subject to taxation in accordance with the legislation of the Russian Federation.
All the semifinalists who are not admitted to the Final Round will be awarded with certificates of merits.
All decisions of the jury are ultimate and irrevocable.
The Jury reserves the right:
1) not to award all the prizes and diplomas;
2) to divide the amount of any prize equally between several ensembles.
In case any of the prizes is not awarded, the Jury may take a special decision on an increase of every awarded prize in proportion to the prize that will not have been awarded.
The Financial Terms
All the expenses with regard to the participation in the Competition shall be paid either by the contestants themselves or by their sponsors.
The finalists will be provided with both accommodation and meals free of charge in accordance with the standards of business travel expenses established by the legislation of the Russian Federation.
The organizers of the Competition will render assistance to both the participants and their accompanying persons with their hotel booking and an access to the Competition events.
The Language Terms
Should any dispute arise concerning an interpretation of these Conditions, their Russian version published on the Moscow Conservatory’s website shall have the priority.

The Semifinal Round
1) By choice:
- J. Brahms. Sonata in F minor, op. 34-bis (either 1st & 2nd or 3rd & 4th movements);
- J. Brahms. Variations on Haydn’s Theme in B-flat major, op. 56b;
2) a piece (or pieces) written by a composer of the participant’s country.
The total duration of the Semifinal Round is about 35–40 minutes*.
The Final Round
1) S. Taneyev. Prelude and Fugue in G-sharp minor for piano solo, op. 29.
The author’s version for two pianos (1914);
2) a piece composed after 1949 (no longer than 20 minutes).
The Nomination Piano Four-hands
The First (Preliminary) Round
By choice:
- W. A. Mozart. Sonata No. 1 for piano four-hands (1st movement);
- W. A. Mozart. Sonata No. 2 for piano four-hands (1st movement).
The Semifinal Round
1) By choice:
- J. Brahms. The Four Hungarian Dances;
- J. Brahms. The Waltzes;
2) a piece (or pieces) written by a composer of the participant’s country.
The total duration of the Semifinal Round is about 35–40 minutes*.
The Final Round
1) S. Taneyev. Symphony No. 4 in C minor, op. 12 (in four movements). The author’s version for piano four-hands;
2) a piece composed after 1949 (no longer than 20 minutes).
The Nomination Piano and Violin
The First (Preliminary) Round
W. A. Mozart. Any Sonata for violin and piano (1st movement)
The Semifinal Round
1) By choice:
- J. Brahms. Sonata No. 1 in G major (either 1st movement or 2nd & 3rd movements);
- J. Brahms. Sonata No. 2 in A major (either 1st movement or 2nd & 3rd movements);
2) a piece (or pieces) written by a composer of the participant’s country.
The total duration of the Semifinal Round is about 35–40 minutes*.
The Final Round

The First (Preliminary) Round

The Semifinal Round
1) By choice (either 1st & 2nd or 3rd & 4th movements):

- J. Brahms. Quartet No. 2 in A major, op. 26;
- J. Brahms. Quartet No. 3 in C minor, op. 60;
2) a piece (or pieces) written by a composer of the participant’s country.
The total duration of the Semifinal Round is about 35–40 minutes*.
The Final Round
1) S. Taneyev. Quartet in E major, op. 20 (either 1st movement or 2nd & 3rd movements);
2) a piece composed after 1949 (no longer than 20 minutes).
The Nomination Piano Quintet
The First (Preliminary) Round
R. Schumann. Quintet in E-flat major, op. 44 (1st movement)
The Semifinal Round
1) J. Brahms. Quintet in F minor, op. 34 (either 1st & 2nd or 3rd & 4th movements);
2) a piece (or pieces) written by a composer of the participant’s country.
The total duration of the Semifinal Round is about 35–40 minutes*.
The Final Round
1) S. Taneyev. Quintet in G minor, op. 30 (either 1st & 2nd or 3rd & 4th movements);
2) a piece composed after 1949 (no longer than 20 minutes).
The Special Audition for the Gaydamovich Award
The program is to be chosen by the participants.
The total duration is 30 minutes maximum.
* On Jury’s conclusion announced prior to the auditions, any performance may be shortened.
