International Scholarly Conference “The Term and the Nomen: the Text of Music over Barriers”

The Scholarly Research Center for Methodology of Historical Music Studies as part of Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory’s Foreign Music History Department invites to take part in the scholarly conference (either in-person or online). The topics for speeches are as follows:

  • international usage of musical terms;
  • various historical interpretations of musical terms;
  • musical terms beyond music;
  • transformation of the general word usage into the specific one in texts on music;
  • specialized vocabulary of Latin treatises in translations into modern European languages;
  • translation of unique terms found in ancient treatises through neologisms;
  • affirmation of the linear notation principle, generally accepted today, in the texts of Guido Aretinus.

A session of the Round Table “The Millennial of Guido Aretinus” will take place as part of the conference. Also,
an edition of the complete works by Guido Aretinus, prepared by Prof. Sergei Lebedev, will be presented.

Applications for the participation in the conference have to be forwarded to both e-mails: nauka@mosconsv.ru and sashasafon@mail.ru not later than 16 February 2025. The subject field has to be marked as “Conference: The Term and the Nomen.”

The application should include both the speaker’s personal information and the topic of his/her speech.
An abstract with a maximum length of 2500 characters has to be attached to the application.
