1. General Provisions
1.1. The official name of the competition is The Fourth International Competition of Vocal-Piano Duos Pianovoce (hereinafter to be referred to as “the Competition”).
1.2. The founder of the Competition is Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory (hereinafter to be referred to as “the Conservatory”).
1.3. The Competition will be held on 23–27 September 2019.
1.4. The official partner of the Competition – the Belcanto Charitable Fund of Assistance to Development of the Musical Culture

4. The Competition Procedure

4.1. Both pupils and students of institutions specialized in music education, as well as professional musicians may participate in the Competition, if as of 10 January 2019 their age is:
4.1.1. for pianists — between 16 and 32 full years old inclusive;
4.1.2. for singers — between 16 and 36 full years old inclusive.
4.2. The Competition consists of three rounds. The elimination round will be based on the video recordings to be submitted by the competitors (see 5.4). The program of the elimination round may not be repeated: only new pieces may be performed at the second round. Both the second and third rounds will be held publicly.
4.3. All competitors must attend both the drawing of lots and the coordination meeting at the Conservatory. Time and place of both the drawing of lots and the coordination meeting will be announced through the Conservatory’s official website.
4.4. The order of the competitors’ pieces to be performed will be established at the drawing of lots and shall remain unchanged until the end of the Competition.
4.5. The order of pieces to be performed in each round should be determined by the competitor.
4.6. Upon decision of the jury, any competitor’s performance may be either shortened or stopped.
4.7. The results of every round will be announced publicly upon its completion and then published on the Conservatory’s official website.
4.8. All decisions of the jury shall be final and irrevocable.

5. The Procedure of Applying

5.1. The deadline of submitting the application and the documents shall be 20 August 2019.

5.3. In order to participate in the Competition, the applicant should:

(1) fill out an electronic application,
please note that each member of the duo is to fill out his/her personal application;

(2) submit the video recording (see clause 5.4 for details);

(3) forward the following documents to the Competition’s official e-mail address:
(a) the competitor’s official permission to process his/her personal data, personally signed (download *.doc);
(b) one artistic photo on a neutral background, a minimum resolution of 300 dpi;
(c) a certificate of music education, either in Russian or in English;
(d) the competitor’s brief artistic biography (*.doc and *.docx only) containing information about his/her place of study/work, year of study at the time of the Competition (if a student), teachers, earlier participation in any other competitions (including the year, place and award), as well as any other information that the competitor considers essential for the Organizing Committee;
(e) a receipt confirming the payment of a registration fee should be sent in case of successful passing the Elimination round, whereof participants will be informed.

5.4. In addition, every duo must submit a video recording of their performance of the elimination round program in the form of an actual link to a file-sharing service. The obligatory technical requirements are as follows:
5.4.1. the link must open the only video file of high density;
5.4.2. no amateur videos are allowed;
5.4.3. only the *.avi, *.mov, *.wmv, and *.mp4 file formats are admitted;
5.4.4. the video file must be opened without any passwords or captchas;
5.4.5. the file-sharing service may be neither Youtube nor any other online resources with public access, including P2P networks.

5.5. Every competitor who is a citizen of Russia must submit the scans of three additional documents: see the Competition webpage in Russian.

5.6. In the event an applicant refuses to participate in the Competition, neither the scans of his/her documents nor the registration fee he/she paid out will be returned.

5.7. The fact of forwarding an application means an applicant’s unconditional consent with all the clauses of these Regulations.

6. Financial Terms

6.1. The registration fee for participation in the Competition will be, optionally: either 3000 (three thousand) Russian rubles, or 50 (fifty) US dollars, or 45 (forty-five) euros.

6.3. All transportation and other expenses directly or indirectly related to participation in the Competition shall be paid either by the competitors themselves or by their sponsoring organizations.

6.4. All prizes and awards will be paid to the Competition laureates in rubles, with taxes to be deducted under Russia’s legislation.

7. Special provisions

7.1. The Conservatory shall be the only owner of an exclusive copyright for audio- and/or video-recording, as well as for any radio, TV and/or online translation of all the rounds and the concert of the laureates of the Competition.
7.2. Laureates of the Competition must perform at its final concert without any remuneration. In the event a laureate fails to participate in the final concert of the Competition without valid excuse, the prize awarded to him/her will not be paid.
7.3. The competitors shall receive no remuneration for their performances during the Competition rounds; nor shall they be paid for any usage of audio- and/or video-recording, as well as of any radio, TV and/or online translation of any of their performances by the Conservatory.
7.4. These Regulations are published on the Conservatory’s official website both in Russian and in English. In the event any disputes or disagreements arise in the interpretation of any clauses of these Regulations, the version published in Russian shall prevail.

9. The Program
Only chamber pieces for voice and piano may be performed in the first and second rounds.

9.1. The First (Elimination) Round, upon video recordings: 10 minutes maximum
1. One piece (Lied) by Schubert, Schumann, Brahms, Wolf or Richard Strauss (upon the duo’s choice).
2. One piece (song) by Glinka, Dargomyzhsky, Borodin, Rubinstein, Balakirev, César Cui, Mussorgsky, Arensky, Taneyev, Rimsky-Korsakov, Tchaikovsky or Rachmaninoff.
No arias may be performed in the first round.

9.2. The Second Round: 30 minutes maximum
Free program consisting of a minimum of four published pieces:
1) by Russian composers of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries;
2) by Western-European composers of the 19th century;
3) by Russian composers of the 20th and 21st centuries;
4) by Western-European composers of the 20th and 21st centuries.

The program of the Round One and Two is to be performed by a singer by heart only.
No arias may be performed in the second round.
No unpublished pieces may be performed.
In the event more than four pieces are performed, their total length may not exceed 30 minutes.

9.3. The Third Round: 30 minutes maximum
1. Either a song cycle or several vocal pieces combined into one opus.
2. An opera aria not shorter than three minutes.
No concert arias may be performed in the Competition.
