International Conference “New Music of the Post-Soviet Realm” (dedicated to Faradzh Karaev’s 80th anniversary)
15 декабря 2023 г. | Conferences
Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory’s Department of, and Centre for, Contemporary Music invite speakers to participate in the conference dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Faradzh Kara ogly Karaev, professor of the Moscow Conservatory and one of the most original post-Soviet composers. Denying orthodoxy of any kind, reluctant to fall under any stereotypes, avoiding so-called “centrism” in both his life and oeuvre, he is the happy owner of an individual sight, a rare gift which helps form the author’s style and artistic position.
Relying on a complex of multidimensional musical idiom, whose model is modern culture’s image, Faradzh Karaev tends to integrate himself into the text of the global culture, which is permeated with a dialogue of various epochs and styles. The phenomenon of the composer’s individual style arises within a conceptual ambiguity of almost every artwork of his. The realm of Faradzh Karaev’s music is both intellectual and poetic; his existential “eventfulness” is expressed by both whimsical changes of the discourse and metamorphoses of static images. The author’s utterance is both distinguishable and recognizable against today’s artistic panorama.
One of the main goals of the proposed conference is to have the position and significance of the composer’s legacy comprehended in the context of both his artistic environment and, broader, the general situation in the culture on the cusp of the centuries.
The main topics of the conference are:
- New music of the post-Soviet realm: the period from the 1990s to the early 2000s;
- The oeuvre of the composers who are members of Russia’s Contemporary Music Association Two;
- Poeticism of Faradzh Karaev’s musical compositions;

- Faradzh Karaev as an essayist;
