Annex of the Year 2026 to the Regulations on Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory’s International Competition of Performers on Wind and Percussion Instruments
A.1. General Provisions
A.1.1. The full official name of the competition is The Seventeenth Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory’s International Competition of Performers on Wind and Percussion Instruments; hereinafter to be referred to as “the 17th Wind/Percussion Competition” (briefly: “the 17th WPC”).
A.1.3. The dates of holding the 17th WPC are from 29 October to 2 November 2026 inclusive.
A.1.4. The 17th WPC will be held for the following two categories:
(1) Oboe;
(2) French horn.
A.1.5. The Program of the 17th Wind/Percussion Competition
All pieces, in both categories, may be performed from music.

A.1.5.1. Category French horn
Round One — two pieces:
1. Joseph Haydn. Concerto No. 1 in D major for French horn and orchestra, Hob.VII:d3 (1762). Cadenza by Eusebius Mandyczewski (1857–1929). Arrangement for French horn and piano.
2. Alexandra Pakhmutova (b. 1929). Nocturne for French horn and piano (1958).
Round Two — three pieces:
1. Robert Schumann. Adagio and Allegro in A-flat major for French horn and piano, op. 70 (1849).
2. One piece by Vitaly Buyanovsky (1928–1993), at the competitor’s choice:
· ‘À la chasse’, scherzo for French horn and piano
· ‘Spain’, a piece for solo French horn from Four Improvisations (from travel impressions)
3. A piece for solo French horn that has won at the 17th Composers’ Competition for the 17th WPC. The music will be published later.
Round Three — two pieces:
1. W. A. Mozart. Concerto No. 4 in E-flat major for French horn and orchestra, KV 495 (1786). Cadenza by Valery Polekh (1918–2006).
2. Rheingold Glière. Concerto for French horn and orchestra (1950): 1st movement. Cadenza by Valery Polekh (1918–2006).
A.1.5.2. Category Oboe
Round One — three pieces:
1. J. S. Bach. Partita in A minor for solo flute, BWV 1013: 1st movement (Allemande). Version for solo oboe.
2. Sergei Rachmaninoff. Vocalise, op. 34 no. 14. Version for oboe and piano (in C-sharp minor).
3. Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov. ‘Flight of the Bumblebee’ from The Tale of Tsar Saltan opera. Transcription for oboe and piano by Ivan Pushechnikov (1918–2010).
Round Two — three pieces:
1. One piece at the competitor’s choice:
· Henri Dutilleux. Sonata for oboe and piano (1947)
· Francis Poulenc. Sonata for oboe and piano, FP185 (1962)
· Pierre Sancan. Sonata for oboe and piano (1957)
2. One piece at the competitor’s choice:
· Any piece by Antonio Pasculli (1842–1924) for oboe and piano.
· Julius Ritz. Konzertstück for oboe and orchestra, op. 33 (1855). Version for oboe and piano.
· Bernhard Molique. Concertino for oboe and chamber orchestra (1829). Version for oboe and piano.
3. A piece for solo oboe that has won at the 17th Composers’ Competition for the 17th WPC. The music will be published later.
Round Three — two pieces:
1. Joseph Haydn. Concerto in C major for oboe and orchestra, Hob.VIIg:C1. Cadenzas at the competitors’ choice.
2. Polina Nazaykinskaya (b. 1988). ‘Lamentation of the Bird’ for oboe and chamber orchestra (2011).
A.2. Prizes of the 17th Wind/Percussion Competition
The Organizing Committee shall announce six monetary prizes for the laureates — three ones per each category:
(1–2) First Prize of 200,000 (two hundred thousand) rubles each;
(3–4) Second Prize of 100,000 (one hundred thousand) rubles each;
(5–6) Third Prize of 75,000 (seventy-five thousand) rubles each.

A.4. Procedure for Holding the 17th Wind/Percussion Competition
A.4.3. The 17th WPC of the year 2026 consists of three rounds. The complete schedule of the 17th WPC is as follows:
October 29, Thursday:
The Great Hall Building, Room 210 — Initial Meeting & the drawing of lots:
· 11:00 — for the Category Oboe
· 11:40 — for the Category French horn
12:00–17:00, the Small Hall & the Rachmaninoff Hall: the competitors’ rehearsals
19:00, the Rachmaninoff Hall: Opening Ceremony
October 30, Friday, Round One:
10:00, the Small Hall: the Category French horn
10:00, the Rachmaninoff Hall: the Category Oboe
October 31, Saturday, Round Two:
10:00, the Small Hall: the Category French horn
10:00, the Rachmaninoff Hall: the Category Oboe
November 1, Sunday:
The finalists’ rehearsals with the orchestra, workshops
November 2, Monday, Round Three, the Great Hall:

A.5. Submission of the Application and the Documents
A.5.1. In order to participate in the 17th Wind/Percussion Competition, every applicant must fill out his/her online application.
See the list of the other necessary documents in the text of the Regulations (clauses 5.1.2, 5.1.3, 5.1.4, 5.1.5 and 5.4).
A.5.5. The deadline for submitting the online application and the documents in order to participate in the 17th WPC is 4 October 2026.
A.6. Financial Term
A.6.2. An amount of the registration fee for participation in the 17th WPC is 3000 (three thousand) Russian rubles. The fee is to paid on 29 October 2026 during the Initial Meeting (upon instructions of the Organizing Committee).
